Principal: Susan Friedman, ASLA
After obtaining her BSLA at University of Wisconsin, Susan has been creating beautiful outdoor spaces throughout the Midwest and Northern California. She began with a startup Design/Build firm in Chicago, holding every title including design director, project manager, estimator, and salesperson. She worked on construction and maintenance crews allowing for full understanding of what works in the field, not just on paper. That company blossomed to a $7 million company by the time she left and moved to California during her husband’s job transfer in 1992. Susan then started her Bay Area landscape architecture company and continues her practice with a highly creative team of designers in her San Ramon office. The SFLA team creates unique, beautiful and functional designs for a variety of clients including residential, commercial, HOA’s, houses of worship, and multi-unit developments.
Giving back to her community, Susan was selected to serve on the San Ramon General Plan Review Commission as vice-chair of the Open Space Committee to re-write the GP2020. She was a volunteer board member and president of her HOA for several years. Susan has also been active in organizations such as Girls/Boy Scouts, PTA School Beautification, and religious community landscape design and development. She was a volunteer ski patroller for many years before coming to California. Her lifelong love of nature started young when she loved to collect leaves, plants and seeds and and watch them grow. Her talent for problem solving and passion for working with people bring new ideas to each project as she frequently observes and interacts with nature for inspiration.

She began her college education at Diablo Valley College and then transferred to UC Berkeley to study Landscape Architecture in greater depth and obtain her Bachelor of Art degree. While studying at Berkeley, Audrey’s passion for landscape architecture grew as she studied plants, hardscape, and topography, and developed her creative design and problem solving skills. Audrey is excited about each new design as an opportunity to create a beautiful landscape so that others can experience the same joy and peace she feels when spending time outdoors.
